Ever since it was first performed in March, 2008, Pommerat’s Pinocchio has fulfilled its audiences more than amply, adults and children from 8 on up alike. Freely adapted and reinvented, this Pinocchio, where childish imagination measures itself against the harshness of the adult world, begins with the questions of paternity and poverty. Can one pay off the debt of existence ? How can one grow up and remain free ? Joel Pommerat does not know if children ask themselves these questions. But ever since he created Little Red Riding Hood for them, he loves stories where these kinds of questions can be raised and he knows for sure, that they can be terribly captivating.
