Ever since his death in 1999, the followers of Hanokh Levin have grown exponentially. "Krum", is one of the best introductions we have to his theatrical world. It is set in a popular neighborhood of some unidentified city. The few specimens of humankind that we actually encounter, have never made much of an effort to get out of this trap. They get married, they die...and remain stuck in a sort of paralysis, while dreaming of a real life, one that would obviously be so much better, somewhere else... Lupa, Brook's and Strehler's ex-assistant, the ex-« enfant terrible » of the stage, Warlikowski is recognized today as the worthy heir of the great Polish theatrical tradition. After widespread success in the operas of the world, or the Avignon Festival, his first-ever play performed at the Odeon theater, is characteristic of his style : graceful, simple, and performed by a troupe of remarkable actors.
