The second part of our Latella diptych, and the second metaphor for this long voyage, which is that of knowledge : after the experience of the enormity and the savageness of existence, we now enter that of the insane freedom of thought as it encounters the immensity of the cosmos. As a response to the oceanic-novel by Melville, we have a dialogue by Giordano Bruno, that he wrote around 1584, in order to expose his heretic doctrine : that the earth is not the center of the universe ; each and everything has its own soul ; and especially, that the Universe is infinite, and at the heart of this infinite space, as Latella points out, each singular being is a world unto itself, « each and every one with his body-planet, each one with his or her particular role that will be given life and character - but all of these body-planets belong to the same universe, the same spiral winding its way around the light, around an Idea. More than some kind of abstract or obscure doctrine, it is the paths taken by a man as he makes his way towards Knowledge, that Latella offers us, that and his wanderlust as he seeks to conquer freedom...
