The Winter premieres : Actes Sud (1/4)

Véronique Bizot for My coronation
Just about to be honored for an old, accidental discovery that he forgot long ago, a retired scientist anguishes over this brutal and relative glory. His cleaning lady is his last shield against the shameless world around him. Veronique Bizot digs deeper, in this first novel, into her uncompromising observations concerning the side effects of the absurdity of our lives. A universe that is both disturbing and delectable.

Anne Weber for My Best Wishes
After several deceptions, the heroine encounters true love in a courageous “knight” who backs down for nothing, not even when faced with the demands of procreative medicine. And yet, there is a hitch….
Anne Weber not only makes light of her “knight” and her heroine, but also all the codes of romance. The author’s ironic distance, transforms the situations and sentiments she portrays into a burlesque festival, where the fictional double, dialogues shamelessly with its creator, and thinks it is smarter than she.

On the occasion of the beginning of the winter season, of Actes Sud’s French collection.
Organized with Actes sud.

The Winter premieres : Actes Sud (2/4)

Claude Pujade-Renaud for The poacher’s women.
Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, one of the most seductive couples in the history of Literature. But the fiery Sylvia, is increasingly inhabited by her dark side, while Ted “the poacher” devours life: his love affair with the poetess Assia Wevill is going to spell the end of the famous couple’s marriage. The story ends tragically.
Attentive to the facts and behavior of the actors in this dramatic tale, Claude Pujade-Renaud beautifully reads and reveals the intimate geology of these real life characters.

Cécile Reyboz for Leaning
In a big city that looks an incredible lot like Paris, on this rainy morning, Lazor Hilaire is early and while waiting, decides to take another route. Along the way, he meets a saleswoman who follows him home: everything is possible because he is early…
Cécile Reyboz displays a vivid poetic imagination as she confronts the machismo of our cultures, and uses a great deal of humor in order to observe the political, urban and social setting of France, in the early part of the century.

On the occasion of the beginning of the winter season, of Actes Sud’s French collection.
Organized with Actes sud.

The Winter premieres : Actes Sud (3/4)

Denis Baldwin Beneich for The Seriousness of Clouds
Called upon by his old friend Diane, Maxime Odradek, threatened with the oncoming age of 50, cuts short his American exile for a tribute to their old philosophy professor. A hilarious novel about the tragic interior exile from which no one escapes. Denis Baldwin Beneich is insolent enough to have turned this into a rare, ferocious and elegant piece of entertainment

Emmelene Landon for The Blind Spot
Three sisters, fine arts students, enamored of Italian painting and English landscape painting, are transported two centuries into the past, and become apprentices to the famous method of “staining”, by the painter Alexander Cozens. This book, whose characters have Chekhovian flair, is a ferocious reflection on our modern world, but also an ode to traveling and restless wandering.

On the occasion of the beginning of the winter season, of Actes Sud’s French collection.
Organized with Actes sud.
