Un livre de chair by Pia Petersen
Romain, who is about 40, collapses during a poker game. Convinced that this heart attack is the one that will do him in for good, he lets his thoughts drift, sifts back through his memories.
Pia Petersen has skillfully established a close-quartered setting, sustained by a style which is both deep and profoundly unsettling, with unstable characters whose internal dialogues are worthy of the great films noir.
Chouquette by Émilie Frèche
Chouquette, a recalcitrant grandmother who is struggling with her contradictions ; a vitriolic portrait of a woman who is being dragged under.
Émilie Frèche has written a novel that looks our world straight in the eye, without sparing it her cynicism, but at the same time extracting from that world the essence of all in it which is funny, engaging and troubling.
On the occasion of the start of the winter season of Actes Sud’s French literary section.
